seeking hacklebarney

Missourians sometimes speak of a place called Hacklebarney: a nonexistent town you try to get to that is forever just around the next curve or just over the next hill, a town you believe in but never get to. Maybe that's enlightenment--always a little ahead of perception.

Cool!
Hacklebarney is Lacan's "objet petite a". It's definitely not enlightenment as that's describing a verb.

Sorry, I didn't finish.
Maybe the object of enlightenment, though.

Hi Lydia,
I liked your response on the Zafu blog. There's another question up that is right up your alley!

The places I'm most interested in getting to always seem to be nonexistent...somehow, it doesn't feel too much like enlightenment, though...

A journey into America and its beauties!

@Ted- You are sending me straight to research! Lacan, verb, object, enlightenment . . .
I'll take a look at the Zafu questions to see if I can pick the one you mean. Your Zafu blog is sometimes a stretch for me, always good for me.

@YogaforCynics- I've been thinking about what those places might be, that is, if they existed. Seems to me very frustrating, and I don't think frustration primes the pump for enlightenment. Does it?

@Phivos- Indeed. I would take a road trip to just about anywhere right now. I feel summer slipping away. Oh no!

I guess the point being that it's the path that matters rather than the goal.

I enjoyed Blue Highways when I read it years ago.

@Ted- I'll look.

@secret agent woman- Yes, the path...
It was good to page through Blue Highways once again.

@Hiro- Thank you for your visit to this blog. I visited your blog and may I suggest that you install a language translator there? If we don't read Japanese we can't read it! Good luck with your new blog.

Why don't you think about Cyprus, as a trip, Lydia?

Since finding your blog and meeting you Cyprus has become a place I'd love to visit. I had never thought of it before, but now - given the opportunity - I would love to visit there. I have a feeling it would be a place I would never want to leave!
