my scattered selves . . .

Pieces Of Me by Juli Ryan

The Crystal Gazer
- by Sara Teasdale

I shall gather myself into my self again,
I shall take my scattered selves and make them one.
I shall fuse them into a polished crystal ball
Where I can see the moon and the flashing sun.
I shall sit like a sibyl, hour after hour intent.
Watching the future come and the present go -
And the little shifting pictures of people rushing
In tiny self-importance to and fro.

My wife loves crystals and just bought yet another one to hang in her window to make rainbows on the wall when the sun shines.

@Snowbrush- Your wife is a kindred spirit of mine then! I don't have a collection at all - just two in fact - but the ones I have are treasures of mine (and one is hanging in the window to make rainbows on the wall also).

I've been looking for little crystals to hang in my big picture windows - to warn off the birds who want to fly into them and also for the rainbows they'll make.

I love that psychadelic picture.

This is so beautiful and calm!

@secret agent woman- Little crystals to warn birds is a great idea! I wonder if bird shops have thought of the idea...
Yeah, that picture suited the poem.

@Phivos- It affected me similarly!

This is a great poem, thanks for sharing. We all need to gather our self within our self at times.

I think I'd like to be a raindrop, reflecting my world--but upside down. (grin)

the most amazing coincidence, since i have just had this discussion on another blog today, about the many selves:

http://ontheroadtonow.blogspot.com/2009/12/old-selves-new-selves.html

(please take a look at the comment section as well, if you'd like).

ps. i read your profile and understood your comment on Horace much better... and i have to make a confession: my grandmother had special genes which made her hair go white in her twenties, and i inherited part of that. i know how harassing this can be.

Lydia said...

@Mark- Yes, we do. I think nourishing that need is vital to our Selves.

@Beth- A darling thought. Maybe it will appear in one of your drawings in the future!

@Bob- (Have you visited Beth's blog to see her whimsical art?)

@Roxana- It's always a treat to sense a wavelength, and so I'm anxious to stop by your blog for a good read. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave that information and your other thoughts. :)

Excelent poem beautifull decorated by the pictured you added to your post. Let me tell you some mediocre words I wrote:
Expect no doubts
Who do I think that I am?
Maybe a correct equation
Based on arbitrary facts

To me an image of dissipation due to friction with Life in general. Did I say Life?

Lydia said...

@Mariana- How good to have a comment from you! I hope you are well. Your words are certainly not mediocre. To the contrary, I have read them more than once today and admire them. Thank you.

@Ted- Yes, you said Life.....but anything you say is Deep.

Maybe that's why I'm getting into Plumbing.

@When I think of plumping (which I rarely do) I recall the one-word line spoken by the plumber to a lady he was impressing in the 90s movie "Moonstruck." Copper!

"I shall gather myself into my self again,"

Course, then you die and what happens. You are scattered all over the place, no?

Lydia said...

@Snowbrush- Well, yes, you are right. And this cracked me up!
