the bedrock of spring cleaning

When I saw this shot in archives at the beautiful photo blog,
retinal perspectives
, I wrote to ask Elizabeth's permission to use it here at Clutterquake. She said yes, and I love it so much I am going to permanently install it in my sidebar also. She took this shot while touring historic Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon.

As luck would have it Elizabeth's latest post, titled distraction, is as close to a perfect commentary on clearing clutter that I've seen. Really, for inspiration, you must read it (and the accompanying photo is marvelous, too).

Thank you so much, Elizabeth, for allowing me to post this excellent shot here ...... and for your commitment to excellence overall at your blog(s).

That looks like some serious spring cleaning! I feel virtuous if I just sweep.

I'm so glad you liked it! I am making serious progress over here .. :)

By the way, looking at the clutter is a good first step so kudos to you for starting the process. I stared at those storage bins in my spare room for years, wishing I could figure out what to do with them. Finally, inspiration struck.

I love this photo too. I can't wait to read the post as well. Thanks Lydia.

@citizen of the world- I also feel virtuous when I just sweep! But I'm in the mood for a big spring cleaning and, yet, there's something in the way......OH! the clutter upstairs. I have lots to do when the sun gives me energy to tackle these projects.

@Elizabeth- As I've told you, your latest post has given me real incentive. I need some sunshine, though!
Thanks again for your beautiful photo from Pittock Mansion (I really must visit that place one day.....been in Oregon since 1976 and I think it's time! Have you toured Bush House and Deepwood Mansion in Salem?)

@Lily- Ah, I thought you would really go for this one! Enjoy your first visit to retinal perspectives!

Yes, this is the perfect work of art to represent your blog!

To me the shot gives a great other-side to the Pittock where everything is in it's place and spotless. People actually have to make that way and makes me think of the people that worked there when there when the Mansion was lived in.

@Mark- I'm glad you think so. It would be great on your recent post about spring cleaning, too!

@Ted- I love your perspective on this, bringing to our attention the people who have labored there in the past and present. It sounds as if you've toured Pittock...still on my to-do list.

A friend of mine did the postcard book you get there.

I thought I'd check how your projects are going! I am almost done - yay! Just one more box to go through, and 3 things to bring to Goodwill (unless I can find a neighbor who wants/needs them first). :)

@Ted- Great for your artist friend!

@Elizabeth- I'm happy for the encouragement; need it badly. I'm feeling truly overwhelmed, now with yard work on a sunny day. Mike is working in the office just to stay afloat with the cutbacks and our grass is so tall that I'm afraid to use the electric mower. But it's my decision to make, along with the clutter upstairs. I *do* have a huge box of stuff to take into Salem to the Humane Society Thrift Shop. We have a Goodwill right here but I feel it's important to support the Humane Society, especially these days....and it's a given I can't do that by bringing another animal into the menagerie!

Congrats on being nearly finished. And there's a lot to be said for not having a home with some property around it too! You can go for a hike with Atlas!
